Probably The Only One In The World…

As part of my side Garden Blog (click on the 365 tab at the top), I started to compost. Remember though, I’m in an apartment, so composting space is limited. I never added any egg shells to my parent’s heap when I lived at home, but started to when I started composting on my own. I’m probably the only one in the world who washes them before I put them in though haha! In my mind it will keep down the pests!

The End Result:

I harvested a lot of Rhubarb from my parents’ house last weekend that I had yet to do anything with, so I told Rob that today I was cooking. Instead of making my usual Rhubarb Upside-down Cake and Stewed Rhubarb, I made Baked Rhubarb, which tasted similar to the Stewed cousin but kept the shape of the stocks instead of mushing, and this beauty. This is a Rhubarb Galette made with a Pate Brisee Crust. Rob took a slice when I wasn’t looking and before I took a photo so I swatted him out of the kitchen and took my pic. He then asks what was wrong with my pastry skills (as I refuse to make pies that often.). I guess I’ve broken my crust-curse?

Dad Tried To Out Do Me In The Dessert Department

Mom asked if I could do up a dessert for Father’s Day lunch, which of course I’d no problem. Then yesterday Dad said they needed pie (he wasn’t aware that there was cake coming) so Mom let the cat out of the bag.

Basically, Dad tried to out do me by buying a 3 dollar Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. I made a Chocolate Pound Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream.
