So The Project Has Begun!

As some of you have most likely noticed, either from my Facebook/Twitter postings (click the above buttons to connect with me if you aren’t already), or from the button on the navigation bar, I have started a new project. Codename: 365. Or, more accurately, 365: An Over-Zealous 20 Somethings’ Daily Apartment Gardening Compendium.

Daily postings from the garden, I aim to inform, recommend, and share tips and tricks for those that are both veterans and newbies to the dirt-work, as well as continue to entertain with my usual degree of light-hearted and not-forced-in-the-slightest fun! SO, I encourage you to make your way over to 365 today by typing into your browser search bar (as my link isn’t exactly working right yet lol!) and get caught up on the last couple of days while I work on today’s post!

On the homefront, I have been loving everyday of sun that we’ve been getting! It has gotten so hot lately just within the last two weeks even, and I live for this so! Rob’s been itching for me to bake something lately, so I may take the rhubarb that is in my fridge form my parents and see what I can do. The last couple of batches have been cakes, but I think I can come up with something a little more inventive than that. Well, hopefully. At least I think I can!

Until later, I will bid you adieu. Before you let yourself out, check out the poll, (re)read previous posts, and remember to check out and join me in the garden!

>Morning Everyone!

>So it’s been an interesting week, for sure.

First off, we had a Pride meeting that had been reschedualed from the week before, and I always love those meetings because it’s some of the only time we see friends. This one was lacking in members….there was only like 6 actual committee members. I don’t think much was voted on, but we did have a website update to get to (woo! almost there!), some T-Shirts to look at that had been donated by a local business that I’ve been heavily pimping this week as I think they look great and it’s neat that we have them!

Rob’s had a time trying to get our comunications committee together, which is a little stressful when we’ve got a short window ourselves to be able to fit Pride into right now. Oh well, we are quite capable of doing what we needed on our own.

I finished my “project” this week too! I have been working on something for a couple of weeks now, and the only thing I can say about it right now is yes, there are pictures, and yes, my hands are seriously cramped. Maybe someday I will be able to invest in some of those compressiony-crafty-rubbery-glovey-thingys! I can see it now…………I age 40 years in under an hour :p

Steph delivered our pledge forms for a bowl-a-thon that Rob and I volunteered for later today the other day as well. It’s for a friend of hers, who have a little boy (born in October) that is in some seriously bad shape and is a religious IWK visitor now. So we have been raising money this week the only ways we know how; Rob through email, and me through Facebook. I can’t thank my friends enough, a bunch of them donated just out of their pockets only because I asked! No strings, no hesitation, no anything. I even sweetened the pot (literally), and expanded to what my mom considers one of my biggest talents; I baked a double batch of Toll House Cookies and visited her work yesterday morning. I was able to raise over 80$ on probably 30 cookies! In hindsight, probably the best day of the week to go…..IT WAS PAYDAY! Didn’t even realize until after the fact!

Due to us fundraising, my friend Ashley came for a little visit to drop off the money she was donating (a bunch of moneys in fact!), and she brought Rob’s newest best friend…Olivia. She is Ashley’s adorabubble baby girl, around 7 months old or so. Rob loves her, and she loves Rob’s glasses and mouth:) So while the children play, Ashley and I have time to hang out! That was honestly too much fun, but I’m bummed that I didn’t have anything baked at that time to give her:(

Last night was completely different as it was. Another friend of mine, Shayla, has been super giddy lately (not the different part…she’s like 3 foot nothing and made of sparkles and My Little Ponies), and all because of my newest Facebook photo album, Yarnisms. I’ve been posting pictures of my little Amigurumis and Crocheting adventures, and she is one of the people that not only wanted something, but wanted lessons. So, after reschedualling once, we hung out last night with the excuse that she wanted to get everything she needed to learn.

Well. As we all know by now my thoughts on the vernerable land of Oz (Michael’s The Craft Store), we can probably guess how that went. The thing that I hadn’t realised before however, is that poor little Shayla had never spent any amount of extended time in the store. In fact she’s telling me that was her second time ever. I think she’s lying. She was a little TOO, let’s say…. four-year-old-with-a-box-of-Lucky-Charms. Even for her. But I digress.

I had already made a shopping list of must-haves for the beginner crocheter on my Blackberry a while ago, so it was a snap. I lead her around (first checking all the discount shelves. I’m not sure she knew why yet at this point lol). After I explained what a couple of things were, the “meekness” of it all seemed to melt away, and the child took over.

She basically grabbed anything that was pink, purple, shiny, a shape, or something that had a vowel or consonant in it. It was cute.

I decided that since I had a coupon (Smart me, I looked online and printed out a couple before we left!), I was going to go look for pastry bags as I haven’t had any since before Christmas and it seriously cramps the cupcake factory that is my kitchen.

Uh oh.

The little pixie girl didn’t know about the Wilton’s collection there. Well, she does now!

Not only did she decide to learn how to crochet that night, she was also going to make cupcakes. I can honestly say that I have never been in her exact position before. She didn’t have a pan for them, and therfore no papers, gel paste, “icing system” (as we got her to go with a plastic tube for icing instead of pastry bags….too many different tips for those, she would get waaaaay to overwhelmed. I’ve always been a baker, so it kinda seemed weird for me to be coaching someone on how to start!

I had to ask if she had an oven. I had to.

The rest of the night is pretty much a blur of mass consumerisim (not mine this time!) and tired legs. In preperation for today’s impending embarrassment on the lanes, we went to bed reasonably early. If I was smart I probably would have practised a bit with Wii Bowling instead of writing. Crapola.

Ciao everyone! This is going to be an epic day!

>So late….

So I can’t believe that it is currently 2 am and I am not asleep.

Let me backtrack.

So today I cooked, no surprise there right? I brought the last of Rob’s homemade bread out of the freezer yesterday so that I could use it up making Bread Pudding. A month or so ago now Rob had made me bread, which in all honesty was a good attempt. What happened was that he overworked the dough and it didn’t rise properly, so he put it back down to rise more and then punched it down again.. Then he under cooked the lumps of dough so they were smallish clumps of grey hard breadish stuff.

*at this point, I look over to the sleeping cocoon that is my boyfriend Rob, and I can just think about how lucky I am that I have a guy that would TRY for me. That’s all that I could want really right? Besides, our kitchen is way too small for both of us!

Anyhoo, so I started and completed the bread pudding (after a trip to the grocery store with my all of 30 bucks that I had from my paycheck for food), at which Rob asked if I could make a carrot dish he found online. That would be done for dinner hours later, but in between I started crocheting.

Last weekend I promised Rob that by the end of the week I would have made him gloves. And sure enough, still working on them.

I found a pattern earlier on in the week that I liked, and have restarted 3 times since then. I never really realized just how hard it is to crochet for real! And not just do amigurumi. I’m used to working in rounds, and could not for the life of me figure out how to do the stupid regular thing. Let’s just say that there were more “colourful” language in my weeks’ repertoire. Third time is the charm I guess!

So far tonight I’ve done the hand part and two fingers, and considering just how much anguish I’ve gone through this week in happy. No, seriously. I was so happy crocheting tonight! Maybe it’s due to me regaining my confidence?

Speaking of confidence in my yarning abilities, my friend Mitch (who can be seen in one of my vlogs) has requisitioned an ami from me! I’m so excited that somebody values my efforts like that! I told him that I’ve got most of the yarn on hand, but he’s going to replenish a colour for me.

On the ami front, I took a break from working with tiny hooks just because my hands were hurting so much! I suffer for my art alright, and I’ll fight anyone who says any different!

Let’s see, what else is new? I wonder if I’ve mentioned that I started my new job last week. Blogger has been giving me a run for my patience lately, so I haven’t been able to post for a while. In hindsight, I guess I could have vlogged, but forgot until now lol. So I started at the new convention center and had a blast at my first event. I am an Event Supervisor, meaning I corral all of the front desk people, janitors, servers… and I don’t know who else lol. It’s still kinda new to me, and I have only worked the one night. I got an email today from my boss booking me for 2 events coming up in the month so I’m happy with that!

I’ve still not been able to start school yet. My loan is basically still being processed. They messed up on their end and I’m the one their screwing up the ass. ‘Nuff said!

I finally got to see my bestie Steph last weekend, after what seemed like a month. The three of us went to try out new beds, which was almost as fun as trying to find an apartment. Everybody always assumes that Steph and one of us are together, but can’t seem to figure out who the other guy is. But as well all know, when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. But mainly just you. Biggot.

I also got to see and pow-wow with another friend of mine from my last job, and got the skinny about someone that I had run into and almost peed thinking of her. Let’s just say that the skinny was truly awesome and requires another pow-wow in a week!

This weekend in Fredericton is Winterfest, which is this giant family fun weekend where there are ice slides and mazes and dogsledding and sculptures and everything else you could think of, and I had every intention of bringing Rob, as he’s obviously never been, and I haven’t in at least 3 years. However, Rob’s gone and hurt himself after a Pride meeting this week, and I don’t want to make him any more hurt. I think we are going to wait until tomorrow morning to figure out what we are going to do. That’s pretty much when we find out what the plans are, as Steph usually starts texting and calling weekends at 10 am. Mitch messaged us earlier about making snomosexuals and snolympians tomorrow night too though, so who knows.

Well, I do know something; Rob needs gloves finished before anything else! He’s gunna freeze his fingers off without any!

Just in writing this long-ass ramble, I’ve gotten 3 junk emails! That’s insane isn’t it?

Well, I’ve been writing for about 2 hours now in between looking up at the tv, and I’m using my touchscreen instead of keypad because I didn’t want to wake Sleeping Beauty up too much, but it’s hard to type on this thing! I think that’s my cue to stop crackberrying for the night. Here’s to a good sleep in (not bloody likely with Mr. Morning next to me!).

Nighty-night chickens!
